Friday Night Hype (FNH), brought to you by Equity Roadmap, is a mentorship program created by educators at Cambridge Public Schools (based in Cambridge, Massachusetts) serving 1,250 students in grades 6-8. They offer programming to all middle school age Cambridge residents, including students who attend charter schools.
Their mission is to provide safe spaces for their most vulnerable students by having them participate in educational and therapeutic activities through positive mentorship/role models. Students get to learn about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, social justice awareness, activism, community relations, receive academic support and more.
Activities that students can participate in include gaming, yoga, music, cooking, dance, candle making, beauty/spa, performing arts, wood working, fitness, and boys identified/girls identified groups where they're able to talk about sensitive topics relative to them and receive support in a group setting (or one on one if needed). New activities are added as more mentors offer to speak to and teach students.
Along with activities and mentorship, FNH provides a hot meal to all students, volunteers and staff so that students and mentors are able to eat together.
Friday Night Hype takes place one Friday a month all year.
